Well it's Christmas over here at camp ozark and the camp is filled with Christmas cheer, songs, presents, and snacks. Literally. For dinner we are having the typical Christmas dinner of Turkey and so on. And for the special event (Chris Mash) I believe the entire camp will be open and kids will have free time to do whatever activity they please.
The kids are pretty easy to deal with when it comes to working in the store. Most problems, which go with little fuss, is making sure a child understands that they can only buy one drink and snack at a time, or that they are running low on money and they should probably not buy the $30 under armor shirt. Other than that the store treats us well.
The girls I work with, at least this session, are truly fun and enjoyable. Last night we spent 2 hours just dancing and checking kids out in our ridiculous Waterworld outfits which consisted of lays, hula skirts, floaties, and Hawaiian button ups. It was a lot of fun and being able to have these relationships at camp make the day go by much smoother.
Last night I stayed after closing for 2 hours working on a rack of shorts that were extremely unorganized to my liking and stocked incorrectly. Luckily it's my section so my bosses said I can make it into whatever system that works for me. They are pretty amazed at how hard I've been working on it and how careful I am at making sure the details and organization is great. The staff in charge of this particular section is so grateful and happy that I'm doing this because she's been trying for 2 years lol. They are also glad that I'm here for basically all summer because they were dreading me having to explain everything to someone in this section. It's only guy shorts but they are pretty complicated to understand at first an know the difference between below the knee shorts and lacrosse shorts or workout shorts and extra long shorts.
I'm still assigned to the post office for The week so that means from 9-12:30 I am sorting all the mail and packages that ozark gets and separating them into staff Bins, summit bins (older kids), office bins, and main camp bins. Once that is done I ten go through each individual letter or package and find who it belongs to and what cabin he or she is located in. It's a timely process however having some good workers in there and a system that works successfully really helps. Once all the mail is sorted and in its proper cabin mail box I run, and by run I mean drive the golf cart, to the summit post office and deliver the summit mail. I also pick up their lost and found and bring it to the main camp lost and found. By that time it's around lunch and so I eat and take a break in the staff house which is where I am right now. Eventually I go back to work checking out hundreds of kids that flow into the doors of the main store seeking ice cream, powerade, and the new cool toy of the day.
Camp has been enjoyable and going fast. But don't get me wrong I can't wait for my 2 week break and spend it with everybody.
