Hey again,
Today was a very productive yet HOT day. I pretty much spent my entire day outside, or inside a wooded building with no air conditioning. Needless to say, it is approaching 9:00 pm and I am extremely drained!
I opened up this morning with our group devotional, which today was Beth Moore's study of David. I also ate my breakfast, which consisted of over runny scramble eggs, and a bowl of frosted flakes. In case you were wondering. Anyway, went to the post office to sort all the LOAD of mail that arrived and went through package after package trying to figure out who it belonged to and what cabin they lived in. Fun stuff... When that was finished I delivered the older kids mail to their designated mail boxes in time so they could receive it after lunch. Just a side note, I might call it Ozark fun fact, the older kids lunch (ages 11-17) consist of loud popular music and dancing. If you sit and eat your meal it's considered shameful.
When I returned to the main post office my bosses surprised us store girls and took us out to lunch, and by took us I mean drove us because we paid for our meal. Either way it was a well deserved and fun break of schedule. Once returning back to camp is was Mish Mash time and, like everyday, kids flowed in, tired from blobbing, mini golfing, water sliding, horse back riding..etc and in search of a nice cool powerade and ice cream snack. Having it being so close to the end of the first session for 1 week campers, many accounts were quite low and I had to break the bad news often informing a child he doesn't have enough money to buy what he wants. Sad day, but oh well.
All throughout the day I represented the Big NOLA by wearing my Brees jersey considering tonight's main event was Pump it up. Pump it up consisted of blow up and space walks galore. Every blow up game you could imagine was on Ozarks ground tonight, it was a sight to see. Both tennis courts, large field house, and large baseball field was packed full of exciting activities and all 740 children and 200 staff members were decked out in their favorite teams jersey. Bummer of the night though was i had to work in the summit store, which for those of you who don’t know is the store with no AC. So I tried to keep cool. Well, I returned to staff housing for an hour break and decided to write this email/blog. I'm suppose to be back at the main store preparing for late night deliveries for those parents that decided to surprise their children with Internet orders or tshirts, however, Mission Impossible was called. This is a surprise event in which counselor don't even know about, and consist of wearing all black and camo and running around the camp grounds on secret missions and games. Sounds fun and I would check it out considering I've never witnessed "mission Impossible" but this fan is just so cool and comforting to my worn out self. Eventually I'll have to get up when MI is over so I can do the deliveries, but til then I sit in my bed with a cool fan blowing on me, and enjoy the soft music that dear old Hannah just started playing on her iPod.
2 hours later....
I've decided to add to this email since I haven't officially sent it yet. Mission impossible ended shortly after and I did my deliveries, which didn't take long at all. I did however, get to stop at the cabin I was assigned to help with and got to talk to them for a bit. but other than that, that was my night/day. Oh by the way, Ozark Scandal of the day, little Darion from Cabin 11 was bit by Buddy the horse. Debation is going on about punishment for the horse and what to do about the litte girl who's thigh is hurting from a horse bite.
Also, another foot break of Camp Ozark Summer 2010 took place today. So that makes a total of 1 torn ACL, 3 sprained ankles, 2 broken hands, and 2 concussions. And it's only the first week of camp. Got to love an hour of Tribal Competition at 9:00 in the morning. Best time for major injuries.
Miss yall
